President Trump declared a National Emergency to steal funds from the military to build 57 miles of new border wall in New Mexico and Arizona. As part of the Southern Border Communities Coalition, we sued to stop the construction bearing down on our home. On June 29th, we won that lawsuit. Unfortunately, the Supreme Court ruled less than a month later that construction can once again begin immediately.
This fight is not over. We will continue to fight both in the courts and on the ground to protect our lands, people, and wildlife.
The Department of Homeland Security has already waived twenty-seven bedrock laws intended to protect our environment, public health, and culture in order to expedite the bulldozing of our home: laws like the National Environmental Policy Act, Endangered Species Act, Clean Water Act, and American Indian Religious Freedom Act.
Enough is enough. We will not stand by and watch while DHS disregards our rights in order to fulfill a hateful campaign promise that will do nothing to fix our immigration system. It is time to fight in defense of our community and our wildlife.
